Champ show 2016 Dog’s Critique

THE EAST MIDLANDS STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW – SUNDAY, 13th NOVEMBER 2016 – REPORT

JUDGE – JAMIE MACE (JANASTAFF)

I would like to thank the East Midlands SBTC for this invite to judge Dogs at their Championship Show; I am very honoured to have been asked.

Thank you also to my two ring stewards Mrs. Linda Lee and Mr. Ian Cole who ran the ring like clockwork and as smoothly as you could ask for on a day like this.

A Massive thank you to the exhibitors for the great entry and for giving me the opportunity to go over your dog., I was impressed with the overall quality and the competition was as good as you could have asked for in the classes with many very good dogs going cardless as a result.

However I am sorry to say there were some mouth faults and interfering of teeth which cost real good dogs a placing today. What saddens me is these dogs are being used at stud and just passing on their faults. The condition of dogs on the whole was really good but why spend all that time working on your dog and then bring in your exhibit with filthy teeth when a good bone/chew or clean will eradicate this?   Remember, this is a beauty competition dog show and lack of attention to such things could cost you dearly.

Some exhibitors really need to go to handling classes because what could be a good dog is being made to g look bad; you only get a couple of minutes to impress the judge when showing your dog.

OPEN This for me was my class of the day!! With the number of excellent dogs on show I could have given out 15 x 1st places – the competition was that good! I would have been happy giving any of the first 5 in this class the CC but with only one 1st place available, it was just down to nit picking on placings.
1st – WEISS’S – HULK HOGAN GREAT ‘N GLORY – Black I saw this dog win the CC at the beginning of the year and wasn’t really impressed with him, but when the owner brought him into the ring I just couldn’t keep my eyes of him. He stood out to me no matter where I stood or was looking from he just had that ‘look at me’ factor about him. All the time I was wondering if was the same dog but once I put my hands on him I was convinced it was a totally different dog, so when I was filling out his CC I was shocked and smiled to myself at just what ringside judging can do and how much a dog can change in a little over 6 months.   Cracking, punishing, powerful head not over done at all and clean, correct bite with nice big canines, good cheek bumps, round dark eyes, neat small rose ears which gives this boy one overall lovely expression. Powerful short neck on well placed shoulders, well boned with a lovely front with a good drop of brisket and nice tight round feet, he has a level topline which he holds standing and moving, short coupled with a nice tuck up and a good spring of rib, excellent bend of stifle with great thigh development which showed in his movement – and he moved with ease and power! Short gleaming coat, body nice and muscular and shown in perfect condition by a first class handler who really showed how to get the best out of your dog and how they worked together. It was my pleasure to award this dog the CC today, and nice to see him go on to take Best of Breed/Best in Show award from referee, Mr Malcolm Boam. All the very best with him and good luck for his future. 2nd – BRANTEN’S – CH/DUT/INT CH. FRISIAN STAFF’S ENTER SANDMAN – Black/Brindle Another cracking well made and put together dog who pushed all the way to the very end. Cracking head and expression, correct bite with good size canines, tight lip, round dark eye, neat rose ears. Well placed shoulders with a short powerful neck, excellent bone and front with good drop of brisket and nice round feet. Well bodied with lovely rib cage, level topline that he held standing and moving. Short coat in lovely condition, short coupled with good tuck up, good muscular backend with correct tail carriage. This boy’s movement couldn’t be faulted; moved well and with ease; another dog and handler team that works very well to show the best of the dog. It was my pleasure to award this boy the RCC and nice to see him go on and take the Res Best in Show award under the referee. All the very best with him and good luck for his future. 3rd – GAREFFA’S – SEASTAFF RIVIERA LAD AT SHIRESTAFF – Brindle/White Another very well put together dog that fits the standard. Nice spring of rib, level topline held standing and moving, short tight coat in gleaming condition, good bend of stifle and muscular backend with correct tail carriage, shown in good hard show condition.
